Reboot with Reiki

Whether you're reiki curious or an established reiki fan, here are 5 times you should add a reiki session to your life:

1. You're under stress

2. You’re having trouble sleeping or focusing

3. Before or after surgery or major health event

4. You're feeling depleted physically, mentally or emotionally

5. You need or want to relax

Reiki, accessing and using the universal life force energy with the help of a practitioner, is a profoundly soothing and healing treatment.  The reiki practitioner places her hands over or on you with the intention of connecting to and sharing the positive life force energy with you. Think of a time you were struggling, and a friend reached over and lovingly put a hand of support on your shoulder. Now imagine having this type of loving support but longer.

Because of the importance of vagus nerve and parasympathetic nervous system activation, reiki is the perfect treatment during any period of stress and worry, before or after surgery, and as part of your regular good health routine. Physically, reiki has been found to deepen breathing, improve oxygen levels, lower blood pressure, relax all the body systems and speed healing. Mentally reiki helps slow racing thoughts and redirect worries. Emotionally, reiki can shift moods, and increase your sense of wellbeing.

Most reiki recipients feel profoundly soothed, deeply relaxed and curiously calm during and after a reiki session.  Reiki can be done anywhere in nearly any situation; but a professional reiki session generally is done on a massage table or chair with the recipient fully clothed, maybe covered in a blanket and in a relaxed posture.

The reiki practitioner usually uses hands-on healing by placing her hands in energy patterns on or around the body. Sometimes reiki is done hands off, or even from a distance. Most people find hands-on reiki is most supportive and soothing, but even distance reiki is helpful. Because pure intention is directed from the practitioner to the recipient; reiki can be a very gentle, yet deeply profound session.

While reiki is always beneficial; if you’re in an intense period of time in your life, schedule your session as soon as possible.
